The Strad Calendar 2026: The Canimex Collection
One of the most active foundations supporting the arts in Canada, Canimex has been running for 25 years. The 2026 Calendar showcases twelve of the finest instruments it regularly loans to players, including five by Antonio Stradivari, two by Guarneri 'del Gesù' and – a first for The Strad Calendar – a modern octobass.

The Strad Calendar 2022: Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation
For this year’s calendar, The Strad has partnered with the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation. Established in 1988, it has accumulated one of the largest collections of instruments in Europe, with a total value estimated at over €36 million. More than 400 are stringed instruments, along with 250 bows.

The Strad Calendar 2021: Dextra Musica
This year’s calendar celebrates the work of Dextra Musica, the Norwegian foundation that has built up a fine collection of historical and contemporary instruments over the past 15 years. All the instruments are in daily use, being loaned out both to top soloists and to up-and-coming young players.
The Strad Calendar 2020: The Chimei Collection
The Chimei Museum in Taiwan contains possibly the largest collection of bowed stringed instruments in the world. Instrument and bow makers from across the globe have travelled to the Museum to examine its treasures: more than 1000 violin makers are represented, along with over 300 bow makers.Â

José Contreras violin 1767 poster
This splendid violin from the so-called ‘Classical Age’ of Spanish violin making might well have been commissioned for King Charles IV. José Contreras (c.1710–82) was one of the greatest luthiers of the era, sometimes referred to as ‘the Spanish Stradivari’. The influence of the Cremonese master can clearly be seen in this fine instrument.
‘The general form of the arching is rounded and slightly bulbous, especially in the middle of the upper and lower bouts. The f-holes are very Stradivarian in form, and generally widely cut and broadly spaced on the front. The lower wings are lightly fluted and the nicks are typically small’ – John Dilworth in the December 2013 issue of The Strad

The Strad Magazine Archive – IV: 2000 to 2004
In response to reader requests, The Strad is offering customers the chance to purchase print magazines from its archives, while stocks last. A very limited number of copies are available. Once they are gone, they are gone! This could be your last chance to possess these magazines in hard copy.
These Pre-2005 issues are in good condition, with occasional damages consistent with their age. We will be gradually adding more issues, so if you can't find what you're looking for, do contact us at services@thestrad.com to ask.
